On behalf of the Analogue Group of Companies, I would like to extend a warm welcome to you all. At our 30th Anniversary, many guests went away not knowing much about us. So today I shall make amends firstly by presenting an information leaflet which is on your table, and secondly by talking a little about our work and how I see the Analogue Group, fondly known as ATAL, will move forward in the next 35 years.
I am proud to say that ATAL is one of the few Hong Kong born and bred electrical, mechanical, and environmental engineering firms which has become a successful market leader in our chosen fields. From our humble beginnings in 1977, the Analogue Group now has 15 subsidiaries and employs around 2,000 staff. ATAL's expertise lies in building services such as air conditioning, electrical, fire prevention, plumbing, building and energy management systems; and in water, waste water, and solid waste treatment, as demonstrated in our key role in cleaning up the Hong Kong Harbour.
ATAL is also known for its very reliable, safe and energy efficient lifts and escalators, custom designed and manufactured in Nanjing China and servicing customers not only at Ocean Park, Science Park, Government and commercial buildings in Hong Kong, but also at airports, railway and metro stations, supermarket chains, in Australia, Germany, Italy, Spain and UK. We design and manufacture our own precision air conditioning systems dedicated to IT, telecommunication and financial sectors, and are a market leader in building data centres in Hong Kong and Mainland China.
Certainly one project which I am proud of is to be the innovator, designer, manufacturer and operator of the e-Channels at all the Hong Kong immigration points. The system automatically processes annually hundreds millions of passengers and vehicles in and out of Hong Kong, efficiently and securely. The HK e-Channel system is the most advanced and largest system of its kind in the world and it has received a number international awards.
35th anniversary is a milestone which encourages reflection about the past and projections into the future. In the last 35 years, we have experienced several major financial and political crisis. However, we also stand witness to the spectacular rise of China as the second biggest economic power in the world. Amidst all this, we have faced the challenges and seized the opportunities. An example is last year, when we bought ATAL's Headquarters on HK Island and acquired another 66,000 square meters of land in Nanjing to build our new factory and office complex. In terms of marketing, we have expanded our reach to East Europe, the Middle East, and soon the Americas.
ATAL's motto: "We commit; we perform, we deliver" provides a clear framework for our future. ATAL's goal has consistently been to deliver engineering excellence; innovative services and quality products, and work on the basis of putting people first.
How should Analogue operate in the new digital age, and in the global century?
I often like to think of ATAL as a bamboo tree: strong yet nimble enough to flow with the winds of change. Also like the bamboo that uses energy from its trunk to increase the size of its colony; we too work hard to energize the different shoots of our business. At 35, we want to continue to scale up our technical expertise, offer an even wider range of E&M services, expand into more operations in Mainland China, and export more products and services internationally. While we must be open to change, we are equally resolute about continuity, knowing that we have a strong foundation to build on.
Theodore von Karman said, "Scientists study the world as it is; engineers create the world that has never been." Without a doubt, engineering has changed the whole planet. Many of the fast-growing businesses in future will be those involved in reversing the environmental degradation human beings have caused. 2012 is the United Nations Year of Sustainable Energy. As probably the only company in Hong Kong that provides such a comprehensive E & M service in buildings, environmental protection, transport systems, renewable energy, energy conservation and management, and IT, ATAL is uniquely placed to develop sustainable energy concepts and innovative solutions to reduce carbon emissions, as well as to leverage information technology to drive economic successes.
The most effective organizations in the world are simultaneously differentiated and integrated. So is ATAL, we are more than the sum of our individual parts.
Our journey has not been and will not be possible without ATAL's customers, suppliers and partners, many of whom have travelled long distances to be with us tonight. Their judgement, guidance and support through thick and thin have been most valuable.
At this juncture, I would like to pay a special tribute to, and wholeheartedly thank every one of ATAL's loyal, competent and dedicated staff. All our staff and companies have the Hong Kong entrepreneurial spirit, work extremely hard and have an international outlook. We act with integrity, believe in the principle of fair play and work with a strong sense of business ethics. I am lucky to have such a Dream Team.
I am particularly grateful to Mrs. Carrie Lam for coming here tonight to grace this event. Her principles and work attitude are a constant inspiration to us. Thank you. I would also want to thank all our distinguished guests for your support. Your patronage and your presence tonight mean a great deal to us.
I wish each and every one of you all the best in the Year of the Dragon and in future years.
In closing, I am delighted that to help us to celebrate our 35th anniversary, the wonderful and much beloved Frances Yip will later perform a song with the name of "The Power of Dream", which I am sure will inspire all of us for the better times to come.
Thank you and please enjoy the evening.
